UP AND coming young bands looking to make their mark on the local music scene are invited to enter the Winterfest Battle of the Bands competition.
The competition will be held at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre in Warburton on Friday 20 June as part of Warburton’s Winterfest.
Demos and registrations are still being accepted from interested amateur youth bands who live, work or study in the Shire of Yarra Ranges and want to compete in the competition.
Ash King, a member of last year’s winning band, Phonik Ember, and guest act at this year’s event, said the Battle of the Bands competition was a great way to be seen and gain exposure as a young up-coming band.
“The Battle of the Bands last year went off!
“It was a great opportunity for local bands to meet each other and perform to a packed crowd,” Ash said.
“I would encourage other bands to get involved in this year’s battle as you never know where it might take you.”
Yarra Ranges councillor Monika Keane said Battle of the Bands was a great opportunity for young bands to play in front of a live audience and display their talents while also being in the running to win some great prizes.
“First prize has been increased to $200 in cash and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming FReeZA Push Start Battle series,” Cr Keane said.
“Second prize has also been increased, with the winner taking home $100 cash.”
Cr Keane said bands selected for the competition would receive promotional cards for their friends and family to hand in at the venue door, and $50 cash would be given to the band with the most promotional cards received at the door.
“If you are in a band and want to get noticed, this is a great way to get out there and show your talents while also enjoying live music from many other bands throughout the shire,” Cr Keane said.
“Get your band together and take your friends and family to Warburton for a great night out!”
