Cicadas on song

COMMUNITY Carols By Candlelight at Healesville Sanctuary had all the hallmarks of a real Aussie Christmas including cicadas chirping along to Jingle Bells, Santa arriving in a big red fire truck, sausages sizzling on the barbie and a Nativity scene.
It’s the second year the Sanctuary and the Lions Club of Healesville have come together to present the carols.
Lions Club treasurer Elaine Dossor said the event was again a great success with local churches and the Badger Creek Primary School involved, Santa leaving a little hoarse and with a bit of a numb bum after meeting and greeting 350 kids, and a great selection of traditional carols, some popular Christmas songs and a couple of Aussie favourites in the mix.
Healesville Sanctuary’s General Manager Visitor Experience Jenny Zigmantas was in her element with what was very obviously a great visitor experience for the huge crowd on Saturday 14 December.
“It was a huge success.
“It was great to see so many local people, the weather was perfect and there was just a great buzz and feel to it,” she said.
Marysville, Seville and Yarra Glen also held community carols events on the weekend but for those who haven’t yet made it along to a carols evening there are events at Warburton on Saturday 21 December and at Coldstream Community Centre, Wandin Baptist Church and Yarra Junction Anglican Church on Sunday 22 December.
