POWELLTOWN celebrated on Sunday with hundreds of people pouring into the small mill town for the Powelltown Tramway Centenary celebrations.
The event was organised by members of the Upper Yarra Historical Society in collaboration with Powelltown community groups and residents, and, UYHS member and chief organiser Rhonda O’Meara said she needed no more than to count the smiles on people’s faces to know it was a success.
The celebrations started at Yarra Junction Museum and continued on along the old tramway route – or there abouts – culminating in a celebration where reminiscing was the main activity along with displays of photographs and other memorabilia, games, demonstrations of pioneer skills and tours.
Shining smiles a success
