FOUR young students were presented with Tertiary Health Scholarships by Ranges Community Health Services to recognise their outstanding scholastic achievements on Friday.
Mayor Tim Heenan presented Amy Proctor of Launching Place and Tara Whitchelo of Montrose with a cheque of $3000 each and Alexander Bornsztejn of Millgrove and Daniel Smith of Healesville with cheque of $1000.
The scholarships were made available through funds raised by the Ranges Opportunity Shop and funds received from the closure of the Lilydale Health Service.
Ranges Community Health Services CEO Karyn McPeake said that the scholarships were a prime example of reinvesting for the future and would enhance the capacity of the service within the community.
She said the awards attracted applicants from all over the shire and the number of high quality applications received was impressive.
“It was no easy task selecting only four recipients out of the many high quality applications,” Ms McPeake said.
“The successful recipients demonstrated outstanding scholastic achievements as well as being active participants within the community.”
Amy Proctor has recently started her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne.
She said that the scholarship would be a great help for her studies and that “textbooks are not cheap”.
“This scholarship means the world to me,” Amy said.
Daniel Smith will study a Bachelor of Nursing via distance at the Charles Sturt University in Bathurst.
Alexander Bornsztejn will study in Bendigo at La Trobe University, undertaking a Bachelor of Health Science in Dentistry/Master of Dentistry.
Alexander was unable to make the presentation but his very proud mother Pam accepted the award.
Tara Whitchelo has just begun her double degree at La Trobe University, undertaking a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and a Bachelor of Psychological Science.
