BUDDING artists will have the chance to see internationally renowned illustrators speak about their work and answer questions as part of the Big Draw Talks this weekend.
The Big Draw Talks event will be held on Saturday 26 October from 2pm at The Memo in Healesville, with Mark Knight, Mimi Leung, Zhen Chew and Kelly Thompson all speaking.
The four artists will be on stage for around two hours, with the event wrapping up at around 4-4.30pm.
Box Office and Marketing Officer at Yarra Ranges Council Erin Voth said the event was part of the Big Draw program which has seen events around the Yarra Ranges in October.
The program is aimed at encouraging people to get involved in drawing and Ms Voth said the artists speaking on Saturday could answer questions about drawing and how they got into the industry.
“Mark Knight will be drawing live on stage, on a big easel, and we’ll be projecting it up onto the screen,” Ms Voth.
“He’ll be talking about his style, himself artistically, how he got to where he is, and the fact that you can draw and you don’t have to be a hoity toity artist – you can be a guy who likes football and still be an artist.”
She said there was something for all aspiring artists at the talk, with Mimi Leung and Kelly Thompson both being experienced in the fashion industry.
“It’s about creating an environment where you’re going to be stimulated and inspired,” Ms Voth said.
Tickets to the Big Draw Talks are $18 full price and $15 for concession holders.
