Final big four

THE YVMDFNlL grand final series at Healesville on Saturday saw Wandin’s A Reserve come through with a nail-biting three goal win against Monbulk.
The game was one of four which drew a big crowd to the Don Road complex in what YVMDFNL CEO Steve Walter described as a fantastic celebration of netball.

GRAND FINAL (A Reserve)
Wandin v Monbulk Hawks
A FANTASTIC come from behind win to Wandin after Monbulk looked the likely winners at three quarter time.
The game started in great style with both sides going goal for goal and at the first change it was Wandin by just one goal.
The second term was more of the same but it was Monbulk that had a bit more of it and it took a two goal lead into half time.
Monbulk looked the way better side in the third with good control and great team work that saw it score 13 goals to eight to take a handy seven goal lead going into the last.
Wandin certainly saved its best for last as it all of a sudden had all the run and ascendancy of the game.
It scored 16 last quarter goals to Monbulk’s six and turned a seven-goal three quarter time deficit into a magnificent three goal Premiership win. Congratulations Wandin for the 2013 premiership victory.

GRAND FINAL (A Grade)
Upwey Tecoma v Belgrave
THIS was a great contest for the first half as both teams didn’t look nervous at all and played some exhilarating netball.
Belgrave led by three goals at the first change but Upwey hit back in the second and took a narrow one goal lead into half time.
The third quarter saw Upwey starting to get on top and move the ball with a bit more precision than Belgrave and it showed on the scoreboard as it went to the last change with a six goal lead.
Upwey showed why it ended the season on top of the ladder in the last quarter as it finished the game full of running slamming on 19 last quarter goals to nine to win by 16 goals in what was a pretty dominant second half.
Congratulations to Upwey Tecoma, 2013 premiers.
Upwey Tecoma 59 d Belgrave 43

GRAND FINAL (B Grade)
Mount Evelyn v Warburton Millgrove
MOUNT Evelyn always looked the better side for most of the day but it did take right into the last quarter to shake off a Warby side that gave it all.
Mount Evelyn led by just four goals at the first change and only increased that to five goals by half time.
The third quarter Warby outscored Mount Evelyn by one goal but it was enough to keep it well and truly in the game as the deficit was just four goals.
As hard as Warby had tried it was Mount Evelyn that finished the match with a lot more run that Warby just couldn’t combat.
Mount Evelyn had a great last quarter scoring 11 goals while Warby shot five. At the end of the day Mount Evelyn was just too good and certainly deserved its premiership glory.
Congratulations Mount Evelyn.
Mount Evelyn 31 d Warburton Millgrove 21

GRAND FINAL (B Reserve)
Upwey Tecoma v Emerald
IT WAS a really good four-quarter performance from Upwey which controlled this game for the most part after quarter time.
The first quarter was a good one with just two goals separating the sides in Upwey’s favour.
Upwey really started to get its game going in the second, scoring 10 goals to six to take a six goal advantage into half time and although that’s not a big margin it was starting to look the goods.
The third quarter saw Upwey score nine goals but its defence was great only allowing Emerald the three and by three quarter time it was Upwey with a commanding 11 goal lead.
In the last quarter Upwey continued to control the ball and was never in danger of dropping this one as it scored another nine goal quarter to Emerald’s six to win by 14 goals and become 2013 premiers.
Congratulations Upwey Tecoma.
Upwey Tecoma 36 d Emerald 22
