Woori too hot against Coldstream

By Keith Thompson
WOORI Yallock had a great day at the crease on Saturday edging past Coldstream’s total in round 11 of the Yarra Valley Cricket Association’s Strachan Shield.
Coldstream with 164 on the board on week one lost to Woori Yallock who scored 7 for 259 cc with Michael King getting 73, Andrew Sharp 67 and Danny Hyndman 40.
For the Coldstream side Matt Stark bowled well to take 5 for 46.
Yarra Junction, with 259 looking like not being enough against Seville, sparked a mid session loss of 5 wickets for some 10 runs, to see the home side eventually all out for 194.
Andrew Kay 93, Leigh Aitkins 23 and G. Seale 5 for 50 the best for the Eagles assisted by Nathan Fall with 4 for 34.
Warburton-Millgrove 127 and 73 defeated Silvan 88 and 7 for 65cc with Michael Walker 6/47, Luke Darwall 3/19.
Healesville 238 and 4 for 89cc were far too strong for Mount Evelyn’s 150 with G. Boon 43 and Brad Jones 29. Darren Edwards bowled extremely well to take match figures of 5 for 58.
Yarra Panthers’ 234 on the board was not enough to hold out the strong batting of the Wandin side with Wandin posting 8 for 274cc (Scott Hasan 93, Wayne Ross 59).
In the R. A. Finger Trophy
Healesville 160 and 4/109cc (D. Burke 4/47, Gavin Waixel 30) defeated Mount Evelyn 108 (Brad Darvell 37, Will Maile 4/39).
Wandin tried to defend a small total of 139 but this was not to be against a strong Launching Place United, who scored 7/259cc with Rod Norman 51, Andrew Hoare 42, Cameron Hoare 70 not out while Simon Young took 3 for 32. Yarra Junction on 128 and 2/86 defeated Seville 91.
Woori Yallock 210 and 1/20 lost to Gruyere Districts 8/223cc with Andrew Blain 52, Luke Sarre 39, Matt Tilney 38.
For the Tigers the best bowling came from R. Steggles 2/16 and Adam Whitworth 2 for 18.
Warburton-Millgrove scored 170 with Ben Hanson 49 and Jeff Crew 4 for 30 but went down to Hoddles Creek 7/196dec (S. Davis 54 and D. Egan 4/50).
With two rounds to go in the home and away season these matches will determine the make up of the fours at seasons end.
