THE Badger Creek community came out in the hundreds to support students, staff and performers as the Badger Creek Primary School held its annual Community Music Night.
About 250 people packed into the Sanctuary House Motel to see performers play from 7.30pm to about 10pm and music teacher at Badger Creek Primary School Jenny Legg said the night was great fun.
“It was a really broad community night, based on people we know at Badger Creek,” she said.
“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.”
The Community Music Night featured the debut performance of the Badger Creek Women’s Choir, along with performances from students, parents, teachers, Scottish fiddlers and ex-students from Healesville High School.
“We had around 50 or 60 little children doing Irish dancing – it was a really lovely evening” Ms Legg said.
“It was great fun and there was a diverse group of performers.”
Ms Legg said there was a great deal of preparation for the event, students practicing during lunch times in the music room at the school and the women’s choir meeting every Tuesday for two terms to organise their first-ever performance.
“We had professional performances and people who just do music as a hobby,” she said.
“It was nice for them to have somewhere to do it.
“What we’re all about is using music as a tool to help build communities.”
Casey MP Tony Smith also attended on the night and Sanctuary House Motel donated $600 to the school.
“We were so moved, so amazed at the generosity,” Ms Legg said.
She said the women’s choir would continue and she was happy to see the Community Music Night, which was held for the third year in a row, continue to grow.
