Gunning for gumboot record

By JESSE GRAHAM

THE DREARY weather over the weekend wasn’t enough to dampen the spirits of 151 keen visitors to Healesville’s Rochford Winery, who braved the mud to throw their gumboots in a world-record attempt.
The visitors lined up on the green at the winery at 2pm on Saturday 20 July and let fly with their boots as part of the Yarra Valley Gumboot Season and a gumboot-themed day at the winery.
Unfortunately, the numbers weren’t enough to shatter the record, with the winery needing 250 to break the Guinness World Record for most people throwing wellingtons (or gumboots) simultaneously.
This didn’t damage the enthusiasm of the guests, who still threw their gumboots vigorously and were treated to entertainment from the Gumboot Dancers afterwards.
