Hearty harvest

By MARA PATTISON-SOWDEN

GLADYSDALE Primary School celebrated the harvest season with its annual Apple and Wine Festival on Sunday 5 May.
It was a chilly day but perfect weather to try a warm apple fritter with a hot chocolate on the side.
There was plenty to see and do with Powelltown’s DSE unit on show, blacksmithing, mini golf and a rock climbing wall.
The student talent quest saw some great acts and even the apple pies were judged for their tastiness.
Principal John Shackleton said there was a great atmosphere with such a wide breadth of the community getting involved.
“The fundraising side is really significant and the other is the community building aspect and it delights me when I see so many school families getting involved and show they value the school and those values go on to the kids,” he said.
“We want to use the funds raised to put some awnings up to link the undercover areas between buildings.”
