THE Yarra Valley ArtsCouncil annual Summer School Concert was held at the RACV Club in Healesville last week to a delighted audience.
After the end of a successful Summer School the concert showed off the achievements of students in the music courses.
With over 180 students annually, the Summer School concert is a free event and helps students develop their performance experience and show off their talent.
This year’s concert was a wonderful example as several hundred eager listeners attended the free event to give their support.
The first performance was by the Summer School Choir led by Faye Dumont, conductor of the Melbourne Chamber Choir and the Melbourne Women’s Choir.
Ms Dumont is a national icon in the music world and the students showed off some of the talents she has passed on to them with a wonderful performance.
Anne Gilby led a delightful wind ensemble performance.
She has worked with the Australian National Academy of Music, the Australian Youth Orchestra and Monash University and has played as a principal oboist in all the leading Australian orchestras.
Mary Louise Wright and her string ensemble provided a nice display of string skills on the night.
Ms Wright conducts the Surrey Hills Chamber Orchestra, Preston Junior Strings and the Eltham Orchestra.
The audience was amazed and captivated by Sue Johnson and her A’ Cappella group.
Ms Johnson has a long international career touring throughout Australia, Europe, Canada and Asia.
She has also lectured at the VCA for 11 years and released many original recordings internationally.
