YARRA Glen Fire Brigade has praised a maintenance manager at Chateau Yering who extinguished a fire in its accommodation area.
CFA crews from Yarra Glen and Coldstream turned up to the chateau at 8am on Friday 8 March to find smoke static throughout the building.
Yarra Glen captain Bill Boyd said there was damage at the corner of a spa where it appeared a candle had been left to burn, but the CFA was still investigating.
“The alarms were activated by the manager who had already extinguished the fire so we ventilated the building,” he said.
“The fire was contained in the bathroom and a small section was burnt, but the maintenance manager did a great job and they were already in the process of evacuating people when we arrived.
“They did everything well and we’re very happy with their response.”
