THREE representatives from Lilydale boxing and kickboxing club Lilydale Youth Club will head to Parkes, New South Wales on Wednesday after being selected to compete in the Australian Amateur Titles.
Ed Abel, Ricki McKenzie and Shane McDonald will join chief instructor Nick Lundh on a 10-hour drive to the competition.
“Even if we flew into Sydney, there would still be a four-hour drive to get to Parkes, so we have organised a hire car and are going to drive up,” Mr Lundh said.
In late October the club celebrated Nick Johnson’s win as the Victorian Amateur Cruiser Weight Boxing Champion and is now looking forward to further success at the Australian nationals.
The club celebrated success at the Victorian Titles, which were held in Melton on Saturday 17 November.
McKenzie won a silver medal in the light weight class, Abel won a silver in the welter weight and McDonald became the Victorian champion in the heavy weight class.
Mr Lundh said that he believed that all three of his boxers stood a fairly good chance of winning each of their weight classes.
“Ed beat the Australian champion earlier in the year in a non title fight, so we expect him to have a good competition, and the other two are very well placed to bring a medal home,” Mr Lundh said.
The Australian Boxing Titles will be held in Parkes, New South Wales from 29 November to 1 December 2007.
