MEMBERS of St Johns Community Care Hostel in Croydon had a great day out at the Healesville Greyhounds on Saturday coming away with $150.
The group’s outing was part of Greyhound Racing Victoria’s ‘Great Chase’, a charity series of races being held at tracks around Victoria.
Healesville Greyhounds manager Ken Hutchinson said community groups are matched with dogs at the beginning of the series.
St Johns had a win with Cool Halo and will be represented again in the semi-finals by Cool Halo as well as Unmarkable and Highriding Rebel at Warragul on Tuesday 20 November.
“They will compete in two semi-finals and if they run either first or second, then go into the final to be run at The Meadows the following week,” Mr Hutchinson said.
St Johns could come away with as much as $500 for a win in the semis.
If lucky enough to get into the grand final, St Johns will be vying for prizes totalling $6000 and 10 per cent of the winning greyhound’s earnings for the next 12 months, courtesy of Greyhound Racing Victoria.
Mr Hutchinson said the St Johns group had a great day out.
“It’s an opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors, have a bet, a great lunch and other goodies as well as the opportunity to be involved in an activity don’t see every day,” Mr Hutchinson said.
