THE Shire of Yarra Ranges has released a draft policy for changes to the council’s cultural facilities and charges.
Manager of Arts, Culture and Heritage for the Shire Chris Dupe said that the policy was developed because of the need for a unified, fair approach to the users of cultural facilities for residents and ratepayers.
He said that the draft policy aimed to acknowledge the value of community and cultural groups, recognise the diversity of the community, ensure equitable application of fees and charges, increase access to facilities in the shire, implement a consistent approach to fees, and ensure the long-term sustainability of staffed cultural facilities.
The shire defines cultural facilities as those staffed with shire operational staff while in use, including Upper Yarra Arts Centre (including Warburton Mechanics Institute), Healesville Memorial Hall, Mooroolbark Community Centre and Montrose Town Centre.
It is proposed that the draft Cultural Facility Policy and Schedule of Rates will be introduced from January 2008.
The council is inviting comments and feedback from the community in writing to Chris Dupe, manager, Arts Culture and Heritage, Shire of Yarra Ranges, PO Box 105, Lilydale, Victoria 3140 or by email to c.dupe@ yarraranges.vic.gov.au.
All comments should be received by 12 November.
