THE Warburton Advancement League is calling for submissions from local artists to design a new creative climbing sculpture for the Yarra Square Playspace.
The League recently received a $13,000 cheque from the Warburton Community Bendigo Bank to fund the project that will refurbish the existing playground that is located between the Warburton Highway and Thomas Avenue.
The Shire of Yarra Ranges will also contribute funds towards the first stage of the project, which is expected to commence early next year.
Yarra Ranges councillor Monika Keane said the funding from Bendigo Bank was a generous donation for a worthwhile community asset.
“The project aims to strengthen the sense of community by involving children and young people, parents and senior residents along with local artists in developing a unique and challenging play environment with children,” Cr Keane said.
Cr Keane said expressions of interest were now being sought for a local artist to design and create the climbing sculpture as a feature of the playground.
“We are looking for an experienced local artist to design a climbing frame that complements existing art projects in the area,” Cr Keane said.
“The design should feature the theme ‘healthy waterways’ with elements that convey the importance and diversity of Yarra River flora and fauna.”
Expressions of interest for the climbing sculpture can be made by contacting Sue Slusarek from the Warburton Advancement League on 5966 9992 or Anne Monichon from the Shire of Yarra Ranges on 9294 6243.
