YOUNG string musicians will have an opportunity to hear and learn from some of the country’s leading chamber musicians.
The Australian Youth Orchestra’s Young Australian Concert Artists (YACA) program will bring the Sartory String Quartet to the shire for a concert in Warburton on Friday 12 October, and a weekend of workshops, tutorials and masterclasses on 24 and 25 November.
Supported by the Shire and the Yarra Valley Arts Council, the event – YACA Yarra Ranges – will see the Sartory String Quartet become part of the thriving music community in the shire over the November weekend both as performers and educators.
Local organiser Belinda Gillam said participants would be working with five musicians including Monica Curro, associate principal second violin, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Formed at the beginning of 2003, the Sartory String Quartet has since become Western Australia’s leading chamber music ensemble.
Featuring Emily Thompson and Pascale Whiting on violin, Katherine Potter on viola and Sophie Walker on cello, they have represented Western Australia in the 2005 World Expo in Japan and won many awards.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for local young musicians to learn some valuable skills from talented musicians and then have the chance to perform to their family and friends,” she said.
Participants will perform a concert in Healesville on Sunday 25 November, following the workshops.
Tickets to both concerts are available on the day or from the Upper Yarra Arts Centre on 5966 5040.
Registrations are open to anyone aged 20 years and below who plays violin, viola, cello or double bass.
Ms Gillam said the recommended standard is approximately AMEB Grade 4 to A.Mus.A.
Forms are available from Ms Gillam at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre or any of the shire’s community links.
For more information contact Ms Gillam on 1300 368 333 or Bronwyn Lobb on 1300 668 500.
