THIRTY years removed from a famous triumph, Healesville Football Club’s 1977 premiership side will make a feted return to Don Road next Saturday, 18 August.
The legendary Bloods will join members of the victorious 1966, 1967 and 1976 Reserves teams in a premiership reunion before Healesville’s home game against Upwey.
The club has extended an open invitation to all past players, family and friends to participate in the celebrations.
Club president Greg Hay and his staff have been busily tracking down the past players since the start of the season and are confident of a healthy turnout on the day.
The net has been cast across the country, with confirmation of attendance from former-Bloods now living in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Among the familiar faces will be 1966-67 premiership player and club legend ‘Squeaker’ Postil – who will make the trip down from Alice Springs.
“We’ve had a good response so far and it’s looking like we’ll nearly get all of the ’77 team,” he said.
The event will be the first formal reunion for players from the 1966 and 1967 sides, while the 1976 1977 players will renew acquaintances after a rollicking reunion 10 years ago.
Local historian Robert Nolan has been scanning the archives for information and photos to display in the club rooms during the afternoon.
Members of each of the premiership sides will take the microphone at the light luncheon to provide their own accounts of those unforgettable September afternoons.
The official festivities will begin at noon and wind up around 3pm but the nostalgic tales are likely to continue over a few ales well into Sunday morning.
