SOME grade six Warburton Primary School students will take part in the 40 Hour Famine in a bid to raise money for underprivileged children overseas.
The six students will go without food for 20 hours starting at 6pm on Friday and finishing at 2pm on Saturday.
In the mean time they live on fruit juice and barley sugar.
The short-lived famine that raises awareness about poverty and hunger.
Twelve-year-old Chelsea Watts said it was first time any of them had ever done anything like this.
“We saw an ad in Dolly Magazine and decided it was a good idea because it was something we could do,” Chelsea said.
“So we asked some friends to help us and it went from there.”
The students plan to stick together during the ordeal with all of them gathering at one person’s house.
“We might go around looking for some donations or just sit around and watch some DVDs,” she said.
“We haven’t really thought of anything else yet.”
The 40 Hour Famine is a World Vision initiative which asks people to go without something that really matters to get a taste of what life’s like for kids struggling with poverty and hunger around the world.
Every $40 that is raised in the event will help feed and care for eight hungry kids for one month.
