STUDENTS at Chum Creek Primary School have a good reason to get their drawing pencils out now that they have an internationally renowned pastel artist to practise with.
The school is currently enjoying a rare opportunity to participate in an arts program with a local artist and parent Janet Hayes.
Ms Hayes is a signature member of the prestigious Pastel Society of America and has won awards for her work and is currently exhibiting in America and Australia.
Principal Ken Sturt said Ms Hayes had been helping the students with their own drawings and providing guidance with how to complete their work.
“It is a great opportunity to see an artist at work and witness first hand the way a piece is constructed and details emerge,” Mr Sturt said.
“On cold days students have been sitting inside at a big table creating different artworks for Janet and experimenting with different styles.”
The results have been outstanding, with many of the students’ work displayed around the school.
“The students have been very appreciative and enthusiastic,” Ms Hayes said.
