RMIT University is looking for musicians with good business sense – or none.
The university is looking for volunteers for a study that aims to find out just how business-savvy musicians are and whether they can make the decisions normally left to music companies and managers.
Business studies student Anna Daniel is leading the study.
“Digital music and websites are making it easier for artists to market and distribute their music without the support of the music industry,” she said.
“This has removed barriers into the industry and created wonderful opportunities for new business models.”
Musicians who are not signed to a major label and perform at least once a year are invited to take part in the study – Emerging Music Sector Business Models.
