COMMUNITY groups and students are being encouraged to snap into action to promote the image of positive ageing.
Yarra Ranges Shire is running a photographic contest with the theme Seeing You – Seeing Me, Sharing Life’s Experiences Through the Generations.
The dual themes will give photographers young, old, and in between, a chance to put into focus situations which provide opportunities for older people to participate fully in community life, and those which promote links between young people and senior citizens.
Local secondary schools and community groups interested in participating in the competition need to register that interest by Friday, 1 June.
Shire of Yarra Ranges mayor Tim Heenan said the shire is committed to working in partnership with the community to promote an age-inclusive community.
“The shire strongly supports the idea that you’re never too old to start a new project, begin a new job, take on a voluntary task or participate in clubs or community group activities.”
The first prize for the winning school or community group is a $500 voucher for photographic equipment. The second prize is a $300 voucher and the third prize is a $100 voucher.
In addition, the winning photographer will be acknowledged, with the photograph used to promote positive ageing.
Community groups and schools can contact Marg O’Brien at the shire on 9294 6244 or email m.obrien@yarraranges.vic.gov.au for more information or to register interest.
