SEYMOUR MP, Ben Hardman, had an opportunity to see a part of Commonwealth Games history in the making when he visited Healesville Primary School last week.
Mr Hardman was impressed by the onemetre square tapestry block which was designed and made by Healesville Primary School students.
It is part of a huge tapestry to be exhibited at the Commonwealth Games next year.
The school is one of 26 from around Victoria chosen to contribute to the project.
Teacher in charge of the project, Suzi Weber, said the Golden Tapestry, involving nearly 700 schools from 45 Commonwealth countries, had the use of gold thread as its common thread.
“Our tapestry reflects what happens here in August,” Ms Weber said.
“There is melting snow on the nearby hill, a swollen Yarra River, our native animals and bird life are more active and abundant with the coming of spring, our vineyards are starting to bud and the forest industry is starting to get prepared for the next season,” she said.
The tapestry took 12 months to complete.
Every child at the school contributed to the design or the sewing.
