Classic fairytale gets new life

SLEEPING Beauty is coming to Lilydale’s Athenaeum Theatre during the school holidays.
Based on the classic fairytale AlphaShow’s production incorporates the humour and modern songs that all children love, with some subtle, value-based themes thrown in for good measure – that mums and dads will love!
Sleeping Beauty weaves together the classic story with Australian and Alpha-style adaptations that include the audience even more.
The story evokes lots of laughter and sentimentality, but also updates the gender stereotypes into the 21st century giving a favourite fairytale new life while honouring and inspiring new ideals and archetypes.
There is lots of interaction as the audience is called on to help Veg and Mite find Aurora, Fairy Floss unfreezes the King and Queen, Andy practices his juggling, Maleficent gets what she deserves and Jamie, the humble farm boy, finds his confidence so he can save the princess! Most of all, Sleeping Beauty promises to be lots of fun.
Sleeping Beauty is on Thursday, 12 April. Tickets are limited so early booking is recommended. Phone the Athenaeum Theatre on 9735 1777.
