LEAH Marlowe says anyone who can talk can sing.
“Each of us has our own unique voice,” said the music teacher and singing group leader who is organising Healesville’s first Vocal Nosh.
“In many cultures around the world, communities regularly connect through singing and sharing food together – we need to create that space and put it in our diaries,” Ms Marlowe said.
The Vocal Nosh will be held at the Darron Honey Centre on Sunday evening, 4 March.
It is open to anyone who would like to have a go at singing with the support of a large, friendly group and to share a tasty meal afterwards.
Ms Marlowe said there is a special magic at work when a group of people join together in song.
“I have worked with many people who say to me “but I can’t sing” – only to be blown away when they discover a voice they never knew they had. It’s very liberating!”
She said the Yarra Valley has some fantastic choirs and singing groups but she has found many people are unable to commit to regular sessions.
“The Vocal Nosh is an affordable, one-off event involving short, catchy songs that everyone can enjoy — even those with no prior singing experience,” she said.
“I hope it will be the first of a series of seasonal Vocal Noshes in 2007.
“We want to encourage more people to sing more often, and to provide a space for people to meet and catch up over dinner.”
Phone Ms Marlowe on 5962 3795 for more information or pick up an enrolment form at the Bodhi Tree Cafe, Black Boutique or Toolangi Community House.
