YARRA Valley schools have been encouraged to get involved in the Commonwealth Games with the donation of official flags.
Seymour MP Ben Hardman visited a number of primary and secondary schools in the area earlier this month to hand over the flags to students and staff.
At Healesville High School Mr Hardman gave a flag to school captains Aimee Harper and Matt Darmondy and encouraged students to make the most of opportunities to participate in the Games experience.
“The Commonwealth Games will be a fantastic event for all Victorians and it is important for schools to celebrate and take part in the festivities,” Mr Hardman said. He said the flags could be used by schools in conjunction with Commonwealth Games education programs.
Healesville High School principal Leon Bishop said staff and students were planning classroom and sporting activities to celebrate the staging of the games next year.
Other schools in the Yarra Valley to receive one of the flags from Mr Hardman were Toolangi Primary School, Chum Creek Primary, Healesville Primary and St Brigid’s Parish School.
