IF THERE was a winner when Healesville’s Apex Club folded more than a decade ago, it was the local Rotary Club.
Quite a few of the ex-Apexians joined Rotary where they have continued their community work.
But, as the Rotary Club found out recently, their Apex recruits didn’t come entirely without baggage.
Did any of them mention Apex Park on their application form?
Peter Skillbeck, Rotary’s community director, said the park, near Healesville railway station, was built around 25 years ago and needed quite a bit of work to bring it up to standard.
Some of the Apex members who were involved in building the park were part of the two-day working bee, this time as part of a Rotary taskforce, which has given the park a new lease on life.
Mr Skillbeck said new tables and seats, made by Rotarian Rod Thom and designed to match others in the area, a new roof over the barbecue area and a general tidy up had set Apex Park up for another 25 years of service to the community.
