ELAINE Dossor has a free tip for everyone who buys a Lions Club Christmas cake.
“It’s a little trick of the trade,” said the organiser of this year’s cake sales.
“Buy your cakes now, pierce holes in it and pour some brandy or sherry over it.”
Mrs Dossor is careful not to stipulate any particular amount of sherry or brandy. So it’s very much up to the individual to exercise some restraint… or not!
Wrap the cake and place in a cool, dark place and you’ll have a really yummy cake for Christmas, or to give as a gift,” Mrs Dossor said.
One kilogram Lions cake can be bought for $9 and the 1.5 kilogram cake costs $12.
Proceeds of all sales go to the Lions Sight First Project.
Lions has also donated 120 cakes to HICCI (Healesville Interchurch Care) for its Christmas hampers.
The cakes are available in Healesville at the Lions Op Shop in the main street, and at Healesville Primary School.
Lion’s member Vin Shaw is looking after cake sales for people in the Upper Yarra area.
He can be contacted on 5964 7222.
