Salvation soldiers celebrate

By Kath Gannaway
HEALESVILLE Salvation will celebrate its 90th anniversary on Sunday.
Salvation Army pioneers came to Healesville in 1916 and hundreds of ‘soldiers’ have contributed to the spiritual and wider wellbeing of the Healesville and district communities ever since.
Captain Isobel Thomas has invited former parishioners and members of the community to join the Healesville Corps on Sunday, 29 October to celebrate the milestone.
Celebrations start with a thanksgiving service at 11am followed by lunch and time to catch up with friends and, at 2pm, a pleasant Sunday afternoon of entertainment.
One of a number of photos on display will be the wedding photo of Toolangi couple Dorothy and Homer Rimmer.
Mr and Mrs Rimmer were married in the old timber Salvation Army Hall in 1973.
Dorothy met Homer when she came to Healesville three years earlier to work at Cranbrooke Lodge, a Salvation Army guest house.
Captain Thomas said photos were a wonderful way of sharing memories and asked that anyone with photos depicting Salvation Army people or activities over the years to contact her or take them along on the day.
Captain Thomas can be contacted on 5962 4826.
