IN the recently played Veterans Singles Championship played in the Yarra Valley, the final was between two Healesville bowlers with Ian Ross defeating Grahame Ramsden 23-18 in a closely fought match.
Ross will play the winners of the Peninsula and Flinders Bowling Association on 10 November for the group winner who will then play off against other group winners for the Victorian Veterans Championship.
The Healesville club also had three members winning the RVBA Triples Championship in the Yarra Valley Bowling Association.
Jim Milner, Ron Patterson with skipper Peter Guest defeated the Warburton team of Bill Gillies, Paul Byrne with skipper Bob Griffiths in another closely fought match.
That team will play-off in the group in February.
Around the Greens
With the opening of the bowling season, the Healesville Bowling Club took the opportunity to conduct their first smorgasbord function on Sunday, 15 October.
The teams came from as far as Bundoora, Chirnside, Croydon, Heatherdale, Ringwood and Yarra Glen. Competition was fierce as the teams battled for the RSL sponsored prize which was won by a Healesville team, with 37 points, who gratefully accepted the prize from President Len Clarke.
The Healesville team proudly displayed the club’s newly acquired sportswear, the first design since 1891.
