Bank pledge plea

FUTURE shareholders of the Yarra Junction Community Bank are being given strict instructions.
Jaqui Hall, chair of the Yarra Junction Community Bank steering committee, said time was running out for prospective customers to pledge their investment.
“We need people to bring in their pledge forms. There are collection boxes at various sites around town and now is the time to get them in,” she said.
“We know there are a lot of people with completed pledge forms sitting on their kitchen tables, but we need them in, and we need them now.”
Ms Hall said the campaign to raise $650,000 in investment pledges to establish a branch of the Bendigo Bank in the town was “ticking over beautifully”.
“This week we’ve reached the $200,000 mark, which is a wonderful achievement in just six weeks,” she said.
“We are well on target to have a branch of the bank up and running by June next year.”
Ms Hall said many people in the community had already taken advantage of the opportunity to sign up to the bank, but also advised others yet to declare their interest to do so soon.
“It is getting urgent. We are hoping to wind up the investment pledge campaign in the next month, so now is the time to act,” she said.
