ARTISTS, farmers and winemakers are being called on to take part in a showcase of regional produce later this week.
The second Yarra Valley Fresh @ Gulf Station will be held at the historic homestead in Yarra Glen on Sunday, 24 September.
The first event, staged last month, featured 32 of the region’s finest winemakers, food producers and artisans and attracted a crowd of close to 1000 people.
Angela Ang, Yarra Ranges Regional Marketing acting chief executive, said the event was developed specifically to showcase the Yarra Valley’s key industries and the unique heritage of Gulf Station.
“Although we were very pleased with the response to the first event, especially from locals, we are seeking more participants, especially artists,” she said.
“This is a unique opportunity for our artistic community to engage and sell their art directly.”
Ms Ang said only one local artist, Eleanor Healy-Wills, attended the first event.
“Eleanor is returning due to excellent response and we are actively looking for other artists to join her in September and beyond,” she said.
The all-weather produce showcase, held from 10am to 4pm, is scheduled for the fourth Sunday of every month, and will feature free live entertainment.
Entry to the event also includes a free tour of Gulf Station’s heritage house, farm buildings and rare breeds of farm animals.
All proceeds from the event, including the $8 entry fee, go directly to the continuing preservation and improvement of Gulf Station.
