HEALESVILLE High School students are gearing up to stage their latest production, William Shakespeare’s comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Despite the play being more than 400 years old, producer of the production, Marney Hradsky, said it was still fresh and alive.
“We’ve had a lot of fun working on it this year. Many of our actors are year 11 and 12 veterans and they have amazed me with their confidence and ability. It should be a great performance,” Ms Hradsky said.
The story of the play revolves around a dispute between Titania, Queen of the Fairies, and her consort, Oberon.
“In spite, Oberon orders his servant, Puck, to enchant the sleeping queen so that she falls in love with the first creature she sees on waking,” Ms Hradsky said.
“This turns out to be amateur actor, Bottom, whom Puck has turned into a donkey just for fun. Four mortal lovers, lost in the fairy wood, get entangled in Oberon’s schemes and the battle of the sexes is on for young and old.”
Ms Hradsky said the students will stage two public performances at the Healesville Memorial Hall on 1 and 2 September, at 7.30pm.
“Come along and see what Healesville teenagers can do with Shakespeare, you’ll be glad you did,” Ms Hradsky said.
