The end of autumn brings perfect conditions for golfers

By Ron Hottes

After three days of beautiful autumn weather, the Warburton Golf Club’s course had dried out considerably for its 27 May competition.

Therefore, better scores were on the cards.

Well, at least one better score – a scintillating 41 points from Dave Wappett handed him the voucher, by four shots.

It was a terrific day’s work from Dave and another perfect example of the 9 plus 9 rule.

Paul Kennedy had 37 solid points to grab the runner-up prize.

If players scored 33+ they could rightfully claim a ball.

Best ‘outward 9’ went to Ian Garside (20 points) and the ‘inward 9’ was taken out by Mr. Porter, also with 20.

Continued good weather at the club’s 30 May competition should have seen the course give up better scores again – but it wasn’t to be.

The best score was recorded by David ‘Pup’ Lever, with an impressive 37 points, giving him the A Grade voucher.

Daddy Patrick snared the B Grade voucher, with 36 points.

Craig Staggard was the daily runner-up, also on 36.

The ball rundown extended to 33.

The best Front-9 result went to Trevor Porter, with 21 impressive points – the 9 plus 9 rule invoked again.

Angus Smith left his dad far behind with a solid 19 Back-9 points.

The club has been very pleased with the bumper fields seen on both Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The committee would like to publicly thank those members who are supporting their club when it most needs it.
