Flood warning issued for Yarra River

A minor flood warning has been issued for the Yarra River from Millgrove to Warrandyte.

The Yarra River catchment has received rainfall averaging about 9 millimetres in the Upper Yarra region and about 11 millimetres in the Lower Yarra region since 9am Sunday 11 August.

Rainfall totals of 5 millimetres have been forecast for the catchment for today (Monday 12 August).

The level of the Yarra River at Coldstream is currently at 3.60 metres, and rising. It is expected to peak near the minor flood level (4.00 metres) overnight.

The level of the Yarra River at Yarra Glen is currently at 3.48 metres and rising. It is expected to peak near the minor flood level (4.10 metres) tomorrow.

Minor flooding in the Yarra River catchment is expected to affect low-lying areas adjacent to the waterway including bicycle paths.

The SES advises residents to be prepared to act if the situation changes.

SES urges residents to stay informed by listening to emergency broadcasters and monitoring warnings and to avoid driving, walking or riding through floodwaters.

Areas around rivers and streams may be flooded. Local roads may be closed and low bridges may be underwater.

The next update from the SES is expected by 12.30pm Tuesday 13 August or as the situation changes.
