There’s still life in these fix-ups

Breathing new life into a 'dead' vacuum cleaner takes a team.

From something as simple as a walking stick to the fiddly complexity of an unravelling jumper, Warburton’s fixers did what their name implies… they fixed them both!
The first Warburton Remakers workshop in June saw fixers and fixees come together to breathe new life into a range of pre-loved items including a coffee pot, pressure cooker, brushcutters, lamps, toys, a vacuum cleaner, overlocker, radio, dehydrator, orbital sander and outdoor light.
Organiser Suyin Chan said there was a great turnout of both volunteer fixers with a range of skills and people bringing their no-longer-working items along despite the cold, wet weather.
“Unfortunately not everything could be fixed and some things have been taken home with fixers so they can continue working on them with the proper tools,” she said.
“Other things were discovered to be made in such a way you can’t fix them.”
Suyin said it also great to see so many people getting advice, learning what parts they needed or arranging future work to be done with individual fixers.
“It was also especially good to see fixers helping each other with their knowledge,” she added.
Warburton Remakers are planning another event at the end of July.
