Upper Yarra Secondary College students have shown their talent for visual arts as part of Hepatitis Victoria’s ‘Street Shots’ health promotion and exhibition.
Eighteen UYSC students took part in the program, which uses video and photography to raise awareness about viral hepatitis transmission among young people.
Students attended an information session in June on the risks association with hepatitis B and C run by Hepatitis Victoria and took that information to produce photograph or video, accompanied by an essay.
Their works were part of a state-wide exhibition in Footscray in July with winning UYSC works going to Meg Huisken for Outstanding Individual Photo, Amy Knight for people’s Choice Individual Photo, Dayne Leeds, Shantae Dolby and Charlee Relf-Bansagi for Outstanding Group Video and Amy Knight and Tara Mataele for People’s Choice Group Video.
The school community had the opportunity to view the works at the school’s Street Shots Exhibition, on Wednesday 30 August.
Tara Mataele acted the main character in the winning People’s Choice Group Video.
She said it was a rewarding program to be part of.
“Education was the key message and it was a good feeling when you saw the final video,” she said.
“The more you talk about, and educate people about hepatitis the better it will be.”
